  • Virtual Pediatric Psychiatry is a subset of telemedicine that can offer a range of services including psychiatric evaluations, therapy (such as individual therapy), patient education and medication management. The use of the internet, video, and microphone is needed to complete virtual visits.

    • The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the urgent need for behavioral health care services. A substantial portion of mental health care transitioned to virtual care during the COVID-19 pandemic, remains virtual today, and will continue that way in the future. Mental health needs to continue to grow, and there has been growing evidence showing the efficacy of virtual health for behavioral health conditions at the system, provider, and patient level. There is also a growing understanding of the barriers and challenges to virtual behavioral health care. When considering if a behavioral health visit should occur via telehealth versus in-person, with a few notable exceptions, this can be driven largely by patient preference, as telehealth is as effective as in-person care in delivering high-quality behavioral health services.-Palmer, C. S., Brown Levey, S. M., Kostiuk, M., Zisner, A. R., Tolle, L. W., Richey, R. M., & Callan, S. (2022). Virtual Care for Behavioral Health Conditions.
